Which AI tools write a story rather than a script?
Three pages describe something other than a script: Story.com writes prose, from flash fiction to chapters and scene work; Vidu works a premise out into a goal, an obstacle and a setting; Toonkit organises a scenario with a synopsis, cast and scenes. From 3 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.
| Tool | Reading | What the page says |
|---|---|---|
| Story.com | A prose story | Outlines, scene work, dialogue and revision |
| Toonkit | A scenario with cast and scenes | A scenario: title, genre, synopsis, characters, backgrounds, scenes |
| Vidu | A premise worked out | A premise built from a subject, a character, a goal, an obstacle, a setting and a change |
Inclusion rule. Tools whose own page says what the question asks about. Order. Alphabetical by tool name.
A script is written to be shot: scenes, lines and directions. A story is written to be read, and a premise or scenario sits one step earlier still. Tools that stop at a story or a premise leave the adaptation into scenes to a later step, their own or another tool's.
For a video project that is not necessarily a drawback. A clear premise, with its obstacle and change, is what a script writer needs most, and several of the script tools on the register ask for exactly that as their starting point.

2Writing, then shooting
Writing help like “Which AI tools write a story rather than a script?” continues into shots in SceneMixer; its guides say:
SceneMixer separates the script language from the production language: the output (episode outlines, storyboards, on-screen text) follows your interface language, and target-region localization adapts character names, casting, and scenery for Western, East Asian, Southeast Asian, or Latin American audiences.

Typically 60–120 seconds, always 9:16 vertical, ending on a hook. SceneMixer's episode outlines are generated with that pacing, and setting a project to 9:16 makes every segment vertical (the default is 16:9).
