How far each AI story tool writes for you

A register of 27 AI story tools and what their makers' own pages say about the writing: what it starts from, what the AI writes, genre and tone, how length is set, the languages named and where the draft goes next, each reading quoted and dated. As of 2026-09-25.

1The beat board

Every tool on one board, pinned under where its maker's page says the draft goes next. The colour along the top of each card is what the tool starts from; the card also says what it writes.

Inclusion rule. The 27 tools on the register; a point counts when the maker's page says something about it. Order. The order the points take on every tool page.

3Why the maker's page

A story tool can be tried once, but a single draft says little about what the tool is built to do. The maker's page says what it asks for, what it promises to return and what happens next, which is what decides whether it fits a project before any credits are spent.

Every reading here is quoted from the maker's own page and dated. None of the tools was run.

4What the pages show

15 of the 27 tools start from an idea or premise; the rest take a topic, links, answers to questions, your own draft, or ask you to do the writing yourself. What comes back splits between screenplays with dialogue, narration scripts with a hook and a call to action, and plans for whole episodes.

13 tools have you set a length before writing. 18 name no language for the writing at all. Once the draft exists, 15 go straight into video and 10 stop first at a storyboard or shot list.

A column of its own reads makers people search for by name — Morphic and DramaSo on how far the writing goes, Morphic again on the full-length question, Mootion on counting a story in scenes, and Kling against Veo on the step before the shoot — under writing reach.
